The Sigma is Smith & Wessons venture into using synthetic materials in gun construction, using high-strength polymer material for the frame. Created in 1994, it also incorporates a self-cocking or double-action only firing mechanism, so that the pistol can be fired without delay or preparation. The basic model is chambered for the .40 S&W cartridge, but it is also available in 9 x 19mm Parabellum and a sub-compact model in .380 ACP was also manufactured. A limited amount of these guns were also chambered for the .357 Sig cartridge. The Sigma series pistols are so similar to the competing Glock pistols that Glock sued Smith & Wesson for patent infringement. The case was settled out of court in 1997, with S&W agreeing to make alterations to the Sigma design and pay an undisclosed amount to Glock. In 1999 S&W improved the Sigma series with the main changes being shortening of the barrel and the slide by .5 inch (12.7 mm). Other improvements included a more ergonomic and comfortable grip and a slightly enlarged ejection port, due to the proprietary accessory rails located at the front (an inexpensive adapter can be attached to turn it into a standard picatinny mount).

This is my review of the Ruger SR9c Compact Pistol. It is a 9mm Semi-Automatic Handgun, and it was chosen as the 2010 "Handgun of the Year" by the Shooting Industry Academy of Excellence. www.ruger.com The SR9c comes with either the Brushed Stainless or the Black Nitride slide. Now lets get some stats out of the way, from Ruger: 1. Weighs 23.4 oz. 2. overall length 6.85" 3. 4.61" height 4. 1.27" grip width 5. 3.5" barreled Pistol has a rail that accomodates most lights & lasers. 6. It comes with both a 17 round magazine, and a 10 round mag, but you may also get state compliant variations where necessary and ship with 2 – 10 round magazines. The 10 round mag has a flat bottom butt plate & also a finger (pinky) grip extension, and the 17 round (2nd) magazine has the grip adapter that makes it just like it big brother, the SR9. The magazine release is ambidextrous, which makes it really nice for guys like me who dont having to do that slight grip adjustment to do it with my thumb. The SR9c has a nice 3 dot sight that is adjustable (most compacts have fixed sights). The 9mm compact handgun has a 1911 style – ambidextrous – manual safety & also a trigger safety. And it has a tactical loaded chamber indicator. Made in the USA WOOT Did I mention that it is the 2010 Handgun of the year? Oh, sorry, I believe I did, lol.
